"All of us are on a journey towards wholeness. We are unique among psychologists in that we expose our vulnerabilities and struggles. People respect us for our knowledge, but they love us for our humanness. We laugh at our foibles, and people laugh with us, relieved. People seek us out because we model acceptance of being human. In our office and in our books, we are not psychologists presenting theories. We are people taking clients and our readers through personal journeys that they can take, too. Our stories model how to come out of our struggles with power and with joy. We have evolved an extremely solid, practical approach which is unique in that it is based on the reality of human vulnerability and imperfection.

In all the work of our 35 years, in our offices, in University classrooms where we taught, in television and radio interviews, we have lived this ÒrealÓ approach. And everywhere, people are drawn to us. They see themselves in us, and we mirror who they truly are back to them. We help them connect with their own inner wisdom that they had not yet recognized, or found words for. They have the experience that "I knew that. But I didn't know I knew it till you said it." Their hearts are touched, and being touched, they feel identification and hope."
